Of Aargus Empty
PostSubject: Of Aargus   Of Aargus I_icon_minitimeMon Jan 18, 2010 2:26 pm

Lancodur, a small village in the north east of Cimmeria. A place known for its harsh winters and grey skies with a backdrop of hard mountain ranges. Like all the surrounding villages, Lancodur thrived on its self sufficiency. Times could be tough, but the locals had grew to know the land and none more so than Aargus. It was at times a brutal living and one he was accustomed. His clan being a very close group living and surviving with and for each other.

Locally, Aargus was known to be a well humoured and helpful man. More importantly to the locals though he was one of three Shamans in the village. The Shaman were held in great esteem as in any village. Having as close a tie with the spirits of nature as they did with their kin. They understood the circle of life and that what they took from the land they had to give back.

Lancodur though had its fair share of problems. These from the various local Pics and Vanir raiding parties all intent on capturing the village for their own. Aargus spent many days and nights shoulder to shoulder with his kin trying to stem the tide of invaders and blood of his brethren.

Many times, in particular after a bloody battle, Aargus would be known to wander off sometimes for days at end. Deep into the forests or to the mountains. There he would spend time alone, re-aligning himself with the spirits. Contemplating his actions and healing his physical and mental wounds while in a tranquil state.

But still, while the Shaman had this peaceful way, they were not to be crossed and Aargus was no different. The Shaman were known to have a fury inside that should not be unleashed. During the battles the Shaman would bolster the spirit of his kin, lash the enemy with their might and tend to the wounded with the aid of the spirits. In all, the Shaman were the spine of the clan and held in very high regard.

From time to time, there was a need to travel to different lands. This was done to secure wares that the village needed or to negotiate trade between villages. During one of these expeditions, Aargus would listen and learn about other cultures. The one that fascinated him the most was the history of the old Atlantean culture. He was amazed that such a culture could thrive given his background and how brutal he had witnessed life being. It was at this time that Aargus began his friendship and close bond with a Cimmerian known as Leoric Wulfenbane. Leoric was a Guard Captain from a group known as the Ordo Templari.

The bond between the two Cimmerians was immediate. They both understood how things were in the north, and Aargus had a desire building with the Atlantean nature. He could see the healing that could be done if their ways were to be adopted. More and more Aargus would travel and meet with Leoric and through time they not only shared knowledge, but also blood as violence had a habit of finding the two as they travelled.

Eventually, Aargus decided it was time to move on. He had been invited by Leoric to help run the Ordo Templari with he and another known as Kutaman. Their movement was young, rebuilt from its former war torn self. But their aims were the same. Aargus thought by doing this, there was a chance that he could strengthen his bond with the spirits of nature but also envelope the historical teachings of the Atlanteans and could take this back to his people giving them further strength against their foe.
So, time passed. Leoric, Kutaman and Aargus started to re-build the Templari. People from all over known lands came to join their ranks, all with the same focus. Their work on their own city known as Thunder Keep was reknown. Together they built a formidable city. Their strength was not only in numbers but spiritually. A well drilled force who had not lost touch with the Gods. Cimmerians, Stygians and Aquilonians all stood together with a common purpose.

But sadly, came a time when Aargus knew he must return to his home. He had heard that the raiding parties had become more fierce and more regular. So, he left with the blessing of Leoric. He would leave he and Kutaman to continue their good work.

Travelling back though, Aargus was restless. He had been through this many a time but something felt wrong, something felt different.

On his return, nothing was immediately apparent. Some days were peaceful and some bloody. He still would spend time with the land on his own, and others at the front of the battle with his kin.
Over a year passed, the battles had increased with their ferocity and life had become tougher. More so than normal. Aargus had suffered immesurable pain. The loss of loved ones over and over. At times he found it difficult to meditate. He was troubled. The constant battling left little time for Aargus to reconnect. His focus only being on the death of his foe. The spirits could no longer answer his questions. Thoughts of the Templari long slipped from his mind and his grasp on nature now being questioned by himself.

It was recently during a long and bloody battle that his fate was sealed. A particularly fierce battle against the Vanir. They torched his village, slaughtered the livestock, killed women and children. It was bloody and it was unjust and Aargus could do nothing. He went into a frenzy, using a large axe of a fallen brother he lashed into the oncoming hordes, ready to give his life there and then.
It is this point that Aargus now believes that the bond was lost. The bond with the spirits. The fury that Aargus felt inside burned like a hot cinder.

The village was lost. The survivors, himself included dropped back to another village clan who took them in. Aargus spent days agonising over his actions. His thirst for blood and revenge. He tried to meditate as he always had done but him mind wandered to thoughts of slaying his foe. He needed to act out back on them what they had done to he. He HAD to.

Weeks went passed and Aargus’ soul grew darker. He had to act. His shamanistic connection and bond had been severed. Stripped down he was now no more than a barbarian with a lust for revenge. Aargus knew he had to move on. This was no longer his home, he was no longer a Shaman of great reverence. He was a bloody fighter in a never ending war.

So, Aargus has now travelled. He concluded that his only option was to return to the Templari. These were all he felt he had as a clan and he knew that Leoric would be more then welcoming for him to join their ranks once more. Not seen as a disgraced or failed Shaman, but as a Templari. No more, no less.

So, Aargus still has deep ties with a love for the spirits of nature, he still feels an emptyness with a void that it once filled. He is still well humoured and will treat the Templari as his former kin. But now when he needs to fill that void, it is filled with hate and anger which he unleashes with his sword or axe to his foe. When he is in this frame of mind, he can be unrecognisable.
